Finding Me - A Decade of Darkness, A Life Reclaimed

This book is a powerful, heart wrenching story of courage, hope, and a mother’s love for her son.
Even before being kidnapped by Ariel Castro, Michelle Knight suffered a lot in life. She never knew real love or normalcy. Ever. She was subject to horrific abuse, in her own home, by her own family, years before being kidnapped and enduring all those years of captivity. Life with her own family was disturbing. This, on top of the fact, they didn’t report Michelle missing or search for her, and they gave her son up for adoption.
A drug dealer, of all people, treated her better, showed her more love, cared for her and nurtured her more than her own family. And yet when Michelle was rescued from her house of horrors, there was her mother, using every news outlet she could get her face in to say she couldn’t understand why her daughter refused to see her; wouldn’t have anything to do with her. Good for you, Michelle Knight, for taking a stand, for choosing to love and respect yourself more!
I am amazed at Michelle’s candid description and survival.
I’m inspired by her today, standing with her head held high and her heart full of love, refusing to let the evil she’s endured, define her. That is a strength, rarest of its kind. And she has a great attitude. She’s sweet and optimistic to boot!
I read this book in two days. From start to finish, I simply could not put it down. It has a depth to it that will engage any reader. This is truly a story of triumph.
Michelle’s love for her son is selfless, true and devoted. What an incredible heart she has for him.
I have a great faith and no doubt that one day she will be re-united with her Joey. One day when the time is right in his life. When the time is right in all of their lives. When he can clearly see the incredible sacrifice Michelle has made for him amidst her own heartbreak, putting his well-being first, allowing him to grow, mature and become a man in an environment that was never her own. One day, I believe they will all become one big happy family. Love is always the answer.
